W&N to publish memoir of screenwriting legends

May 28th, 2019

Weidenfeld & Nicolson publisher Alan Samson has acquired world rights excluding the USA and Canada to the funniest memoir you will read this year: More Than Likely will be published on 19th September. Dick Clement and Ian Le Frenais teamed up in the early 1960s and scripted a series about two lads from Newcastle. The Likely Lads became BBC Two’s first hit. The writing duo went on to create a string of classics including, Whatever Happened to the Likely Lads?, Auf Wiedersehen, Pet, and Lovejoy, before adapting Roddy Doyle’s The Commitments for the screen. Along the way they encountered Hollywood stars, Richard Burton, Ava Gardner, Marlon Brando, Sean Connery, Michael Caine, to name a few Hollywood stars.

What’s their secret? Sitting in a room everyday, as they have done for the past 50 years, and redrafting the pages they wrote the day before.
